Across most traditions, Michael is associated with three specific tasks:
The Warrior: He commands the Army of God and leads the fight against Satan and the fallen angels.
The Protector: He is the guardian of the faithful and the church (or in Judaism, the guardian of Israel).
The Weigher of Souls: In many traditions (especially Catholic and Orthodox), he is believed to be present at the hour of death to escort the soul to the afterlife and weigh its merits on a set of scales during the Final Judgment.
